1000 Prisoners Head for Cairo After Escaping From Prison

As police and the military attempt to assert control over the citizenry of Egypt, a disruptive force is heading for Cairo: a set of 1,000 prisoners have escaped from a prison and are heading for Cairo, according to a video report just aired on CNN.

According to the reports, the incident took place in Fayoum, a desert area west of Cairo. While CNN mentioned 1,000 prisoners had escaped, other reports state the number as closer to 700 prisoners. Meanwhile, a top prison official, one who held the rank of general, was killed, according to broadcaster al-Arabiya.
